Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are energetic, smart, and thoughtful fifth graders who are eager to learn new things every day. My class consists of students with mixed abilities, students with IEPs, and ENL students. I work in a Title I school in one of the poorest districts in New York. Many students live in shelters, take care of siblings, and have very little home support. In my class, 100% of students receive free lunch. For many of them, school is the safest place for them to be.
Despite all of the challenges my students face, they are eager and excited to come to school and learn every day.
My Project
My students need pencils, clipboards and dry erase markers. Many of my students are unable to come to school with basic school supplies. While my students do share with each other it usually falls on me and a few students to provide the class with our necessary school supplies. Our classroom supplies are running very low this time of year.
With your support I will be able to replenish our classroom supply of pencils and dry erase markers for the rest of the school year.
My students will use the dry erase markers to work in collaborative groups solving multi-step word problems in math class. They will also use the dry erase markers when working on their math fluencies.
I am also requesting clipboards for my students to use on our upcoming spring field trips to museums. Students will use the clipboards to keep their notes, and field guides in one place so that they can use them for projects after the trips are over.
