This is my first year at this school, so I have only just begun to get to know the amazing students! However, I can tell from just the first couple of days, that the students here are exceptionally caring and respectful. Each morning, I have been greeted with smiles and students looking me in the eyes to say good morning.
As the school counselor, I get many opportunities to interact with students from every class in our school.
I have just finished my first round of visits to all of the classes. Each of the classes welcomed me wholeheartedly into their classroom and I instantly felt a part of their family. Recently, I had a upset student come visit me to share about her evening from the night before. By the time we finished our conversation, she gave me a giant hug and said, "you are my new best friend!" I am excited to get to make these connections with each of the students in my school this year!
My Project
As a school counselor, I want to have an office space that is calm and inviting for all students. I want students to walk through the door and feel like they are enveloped in warmth and love. By adding soft lighting, calming sounds, and comfortable seating, I believe children will feel more comfortable in my office space and they will be able to focus on their social/emotional development.
When students visit the school counselor to discuss a difficult situation, it is important that they feel like they are in a calm and safe environment.
I truly believe that environment is the 3rd teacher and I want to teach mindfulness and compassion through the environment.
