This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our adult special education students are an inspiring group of individuals with diverse abilities and learning needs. They thrive on routine, structure, and sensory-friendly environments that make their school experience more comfortable and enriching. We are dedicated to fostering not only their academic growth but also their social and emotional well-being.

One of the challenges we face is finding a private, quiet space for our students to enjoy their lunch outside of the bustling cafeteria.

Many of our students are sensitive to noise and large crowds, and having an alternative space will help them relax, socialize, and re-energize in a way that meets their unique needs.

To create this peaceful outdoor lunch area, we are seeking funds for a sturdy outdoor picnic table and an artificial rug to provide a comfortable, sensory-friendly surface. These items will allow us to transform a small outdoor area into a welcoming space where our students can enjoy their meals and engage in social interactions with peers in a calm and controlled environment.

The picnic table will be large enough to accommodate our students and their aides, ensuring that everyone has a place to sit comfortably. The artificial rug will add a soft, safe surface for students who prefer to sit on the ground or need a tactile experience that helps regulate their sensory input.
