A Novel Approach

Help me give my students reading experiences that will help to develop a love a reading through exposure to great fiction and nonfiction books.

My Students

My 24 third graders are curious, fun-loving, intelligent and are eager to incorporate their learning into real world situations. These amazing young people come from diverse socio-economic, and cultural backgrounds. Yet, they strive for excellence.

Of the 24, 3 have resource services, and 2 are English language learners.

Third grade is a turning point in a student's education, students are expected to master skills and concepts they will use their entire lives. My goal is to create engaging situations and learning experiences that will foster a lifelong love of learning and provide a strong foundation for their futures.

My Project

The books I am requesting will help me to provide quality instruction about what it means to become a thoughtful and critical reader. The books that I have requested are high quality and very engaging. I will use the books in whole class as well as small group instruction.

With these new books, my students will learn to use various comprehension strategies, engage in higher level thinking and build a classroom community built on shared experiences.

We will delve into the books to learn about a character's motivation and how we can learn from and empathize with others.

We will share a common experience from which we can grow as a class of learners.
