My students need new concert band folders because their folders were destroyed by the Floods of Hurricane Harvey and we're trying to replace our contest folders before UIL Concert & Sight Reading in April.
I have the most wonderful group of students anyone could ask for. My core classes consist of 6th, 7th, and 8th graders ranging from beginner band to middle school honor band. Unfortunately, many of these students lost all but their lives in the 2017 Harvey Floods that ravaged across Southeast Texas. Many of our students lost everything up to the rafters of their homes and the clothes on their backs.
When devastation struck, these incredible young musicians didn't give up.
I couldn't have been blessed with a better group of students who absolutely love to learn about music. Their love for music and commitment to our organization is unlike anything I've ever seen in a group of young musicians. Even coming back to school without homes, clothes, instruments, they were ready to learn and eager to get back to music.
My Project
Unfortunately, due to the effects of Hurricane Harvey and the loss of an entire band hall, we lost massive amounts of music and folders. We're now attempting to replace them before we compete at Concert & Sight Reading in April. Our students work so hard and didn't let a hurricane and the loss of not only a school, but many of their homes, stop them being eager to continue their growth as young musicians.
That kind of dedication to the art, very much sets the tone as to what caliber of musician these students will become.
I would like for them to have a nice set of forty Concert Folders to reuse every year for contest. This would be a one time cost for us as we will assign and check out/in these folders every spring semester. I believe these students are worth that, and so much more.
