A Musical Adventure: Lion King, Jr.!

My Project

My music students have been a part of my chorus since they started middle school. My students helped to develop this project idea because they love hands-on learning. In addition, they love having the opportunity to explore different avenues regarding music. Evidence suggests that music can improve emotional wellness and mental health. We are hopeful that having an opportunity to take part in a musical, whether it is virtual or live, will increase students' emotional wellness.

This project will allow my students to learn both leadership and collaboration, as well as curiosity and deep learning.

My students have the goal of giving their fellow students more learning opportunities in the music classroom. They have anticipated challenges, such as what is required as far as safety when acquiring items for a public school classroom, what is needed for a musical performance, and they have developed a plan to overcome obstacles as they arise. One of these challenges is being able to create and produce a musical during and after a pandemic. This experience, as well as the creation of this project, has allowed my students to further understand how music can have a positive effect on student learning.
