Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year, I have an amazing bunch of students who deserve so much! The majority of them have after-school jobs and come from low-income households. My classroom is a place for them to feel welcome and at home in, to hopefully be a safe haven for many of them.

Many struggle with reading comprehension and writing skills, but they don't let that stop them from trying their hardest.

They are determined to improve and graduate, many of them being seniors. I love how confident they are and how much they put into their studies; they don't let anything bring them down, and they don't give up on themselves.

My Project

The majority of my students live below the poverty line and many are hungry when they walk into my classroom. They're tired from working late night shifts and having to wake up early for school. Many have trouble focusing in class and feel the exhaustion from their full work loads. I would love to be able to treat them to some healthy snack options (we live in a food desert) and give them an energy boost to keep them going.

These healthy snacks and bars will make a huge difference and have a positive impact on the end result of the work they do in my class.

The outcome of their work is of a much higher quality when they aren't tired and hungry, they are definitely more focused and alert. They are strong and resilient students that have a lot on their shoulders and I would love to help them out in even the smallest way possible.
