My students are a diverse group of learners who come from various backgrounds. Our school is a Title I school, meaning many of our students are living in poverty. Despite these challenges, my students are very capable learners that sometimes require a bit more motivation to be successful.
My class is made up of 24 amazing 5th graders.
They love to learn and have fun while doing it! I enjoy making learning fun for my students so that they will develop positive feelings about school and learning.
"Esperanza Rising" is an award winning novel that is perfect to use in a fifth grade classroom. It tells the story of a young Mexican girl who led a privileged life until a tragedy forces her family to escape to the United States. She is forced to rise above her difficult circumstances in order to provide for a better life for her family.
This amazing novel will be used to teach many literature standards as well as important social-emotional lessons.
My students come from diverse backgrounds, and I know that they will connect to Esperanza and her struggles as an immigrant.
