A Love for Reading!

Help me give my students the opportunity to grow their love for reading. These items will help with my guided reading and small group teaching times. The magnetic white boards and letters are sure to be a favorite!

My Students

Getting to live and work in Hawaii? A dream come true! I teach 20 little first graders who are high energy and full of ideas. First grade is an amazing year where students growth so much, both academically, emotionally and physically.

I work at a title one school where a lot of our students are English language learners.

My students are creative, thoughtful and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects. They come to school each day ready to try new things, take chances and make mistakes.

My Project

First grade is THE critical year for reading development. It also has the greatest level of expected growth compared with any other grade. Stud nets are expected to grow 6 levels during the short year! This is why we do small group instruction. The magnetic letters and boards will help students with building and sounding out words.

Guided reading gives me the opportunity to pull small groups of students who have similar skills to be able to give them individualized targeted instruction.

Guided reading is one of my favorite times of the day and I am continually looking for new ideas and ways to teach my students that are struggling.
