Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are curious and opinionated. They engage in class discussions each day and are willing to share their ideas and discuss them with others. This book will provide great material for students to work with for writing ideas.

As a conclusion to reading A Long Way Home by Saroo Brierly, students will write about a trying time in their lives.

Students will have a chance to present their writing to an audience of peers and family members.

We want to have enough books such that multiple classes will be able to be reading it simultaneously. In order to do this, we will need additional copies of the novel.

I am always looking for great ways to engage my students. This will be a celebration of their work and a way for students to share their writing.

My Project

The books and accompanying film will be the foundation for a reading and writing unit for my 12th graders. We will read and discuss how a boy finds his way from the slums of India to a stable, loving home in Australia and then back home again to a loving mother and family.

This true story is beautiful and haunting.

It will captivate my students and help them to appreciate how challenges are overcome and a true appreciation for all of the good in the world is revealed. Saroo tells his story of being lost, found and then seeking his home and those that miss him.
