A Long Walk to Water, Book Study

My Project

I teach in an at-risk area, meaning that most of the school is behind in their learning where they should be. The neighborhood around my school is not the best. On average, the students that I teach are at least one grade level behind. We are lacking in vocabulary and reading skills the most. My class has learned what is expected of them and now their behavior is great. I have a great behaved class and I want to give them a leg up.

My students are typically African American with low income.

Currently my school does not have a school library. We have to rely on my classroom library of books I have collected and have donated.

A lot of my students only have a phone to access their assignments. The students do not have books available at home to read. A majority of them do not go to the library. So the only chance for them to participate in the book study is to have the book donated.
