Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is in a high poverty area where students have grown up with many hardships. These 5th graders know though, my classroom is a safe place for them to be. Each one of them is a caring student who holds high values of respect and responsibility.
All my students are very enthusiastic to learn and grow their minds for their futures!
At the beginning of the year, I asked my students what their goals were and what they needed from me as their teacher. The results surprised me. Most of my students were eager to gain reading skills and learn as much as they can. My school started a new reading curriculum this year that my students are loving. Now my job is to teach these students the best I can. Hands shoot up when I ask questions and they are engaged. But lessons aren't short, my students get antsy and need to move. I do my best to break it up and keep them engaged but they need something to do with their hands and keep moving to stay focused.
My Project
My students need a way to have movement without being a distraction to their learning or other classmates' learning.
Students can use these items at their desks while the lesson is being presented to help keep calm and focus.
Stability balance discs keep students, who have a hard time sitting and need a little movement, engaged and learning. They can also be used to help calm a student to keep their emotions from getting the best of them and prevent the risk of physical action.
The bouncy bands will help my student who has a hard time sitting in his/her seat. This student always need to be moving and the band connected to their desk will allow for this.
Students can use stress balls to take out frustrations instead of using anger. These stress balls also keep their hands busy when they are listening to lessons.
