Help me give my students a “Little Spot of…” library, a breathing pal, a floor lamp for calm lighting, and a weighted stuffed animal.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

A Calm Corner for Big Feelings and Growing Minds

My students each have unique learning needs, and sometimes they need a little extra support to navigate big emotions, manage anxiety, or take a quiet moment before returning to learning.

With your help, I hope to create a calming corner in our classroom where students can take a break, practice breathing techniques, and enjoy a good book in a peaceful environment. A floor lamp will provide soft, calming lighting, while a weighted stuffed animal can offer comfort to students who benefit from sensory support. A Breathing Pal will help students practice mindful breathing and develop healthy strategies for managing anxiety and overwhelming emotions. The A Little Spot of… book sets will introduce students to important emotions and help them build the vocabulary to understand and express their feelings.

Our school serves a low-income community, and access to additional classroom resources is limited. Your generosity would help provide my students with tools they may not otherwise have access to. These materials will support more than just a cozy corner; they will help create opportunities for students to build independence, develop emotional regulation skills, strengthen their reading abilities, and learn that their feelings matter.

As I begin my teaching journey, I want my students to know that it is okay to have big feelings, ask for help, and take a break when they need one. My hope is that this space becomes a place where they can reset, feel encouraged, and return to learning with greater confidence.

Thank you for helping me create a classroom where every student feels they belong, every emotion is met with understanding, and every child has the opportunity to grow!
