I teach at a wonderful, supportive school and community in suburban Seattle. My students are extremely curious, excited to learn, full of energy, and creative. The kids in my class are super sweet and full of questions!
My students love reading whether it is by themselves, with a partner, or as a read-aloud.
They are becoming more confident and skilled readers and writers in a variety of genres. My kids love solving math challenges with a partner or playing math games with a group. My students especially look forward to our weekly Fun Friday art projects.
My Project
A Little SPOT is a perfect social-emotional series for first graders. These would be a great addition to my morning meetings online. When I go back to teaching in-person, I will use these as part of a daily social-emotional lesson each afternoon. The books are also written so that first graders can easily read them independently or with a partner. The boxed sets include important topics such as anxiety, organization, and courage.
In a few weeks, my students will be split into two groups: those staying remote and those returning in-person, where they will all have new teachers and classmates.
This transition is uncharted territory and the variety of books in this series will help ensure I can help students with their varying emotions.
