Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Two years ago, my class sizes were in the 22 - 25 range. This year all of my classes are at 32 students! The classroom hasn't changed and we are quite literally running out of room.
My students are classified as ELLs (English Language Learners) or former ELLs.
They live under the poverty line, and everyday they face the struggle of trying to master a new language and learn the curriculum. Their exposure to English is limited to what they hear, speak and read at school. Many live with extended families in small apartments and they don't have a quiet place to complete their work.
My Project
We are literally busting out of our classroom. Walking around the room is like walking around an obstacle course!! If we need to get any supplies or pass anything out, it becomes a crowded, dangerous mess. On the plus side, we are getting very good at saying excuse me and sorry!!
The items that I have requested will allow for a more streamlined, organized classroom. These items will make it easier to use the resources we do have as well as limiting the number of times people trip or walk over each others' belongings. My students would love to be able to have access to everything that they can, but they need to be able to find it so that they can use it!
These basic storage items are so important.
If we had these basic (but expensive!) items, we would be able to use more of the things that we do have. When working with a crowded classroom, the only thing that can make it work is extreme organization. Thank you for you consideration of our project!
