Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Visualize a class of 12 second grade students who are thirsty for knowledge but have very limited resources with which to grow and learn at a rapid pace. Located in one of the lowest income communities in New York, we still strive and always aim for the best.
In my classroom, all my students are special needs students who are performing at a kindergarten/beginning 1st grade level. It is expected that I teach as close to a 2nd grade level as possible, but this is an extremely difficult task since many of my students lack basic phonological skills. It is crucial that my students are near or on grade level by the time they enter the 3rd grade, since the material is more challenging. In order for effective learning to take place my students need various classroom supplies that we do not have at this time. These supplies will help in making sight words and other activities for center time.
In the classroom we are lacking a few resources that will aid in my students educational development. I am requesting magnetic sight word letters so that students can use it to build sight words. Cardstock will be used in the classroom to create center activities and since my school already has a laminating machine I will use the laminating sheets to preserve the centers that I make using the cardstock. My students will also benefit from having highlighters and markers to create charts in groups. Though the dell ink will not be used in the classroom by the students, I do print out class assignments and activities at home that directly impact my students. In the classroom students will use post-its for quizzes as well as commenting on each others work.
Learning never ends and for my little ones it has been a rough start. Your gift will help my students be life long learners. Thank you dear Donor for your generosity.
