Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach an amazing group of high school students who bring resilience, curiosity, and diverse life experiences into the classroom every day. Many of my students are English learners or students working hard to earn credits toward graduation. They come from many different backgrounds, and their stories and perspectives make our classroom community incredibly special. What I love most about my students is their determination and the way they support one another as they grow as readers, writers, and thinkers.

One of the biggest challenges my students face is finding books that feel meaningful and accessible to them.

When students see characters who share their culture, language, or life experiences, reading becomes much more powerful. These books will help build a classroom library filled with diverse voices and engaging stories that reflect my students and the world around them.

The books in this project include graphic novels, verse novels, and high-interest stories that are accessible for English learners and reluctant readers. These types of books are especially important because they help students build confidence and develop a love of reading. Many of the stories focus on themes such as identity, perseverance, family, and social justice, which spark powerful discussions and help students connect literature to their own lives.

With these resources, my students will have the opportunity to choose books that interest them, participate in small reading groups, and engage in meaningful conversations about the stories they read. A strong classroom library helps students see reading not just as a school task, but as something that can inspire, empower, and open doors to new perspectives.

Your support will help create a classroom where every student can find a book that speaks to them and encourages them to grow as confident readers.
