Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are hard-working, fun-loving learners. We explore our world, each and every day, through shared reading, drama, and play.
I feel so lucky to be a kindergarten teacher, because my students come to school, every day, eager to experience books!
You can hear a pin drop when we open up books together! It is my favorite time of the day.
My families come from many different backgrounds and cultures. The most common similarity among my kids is, absolutely, loving sharing books and exploring new worlds through them!
My Project
Kindergarten is the best because the students go from not knowing all of their sounds, to reading by the end of the year! I have books donors generously funded last year, now I want to fill the space with love. My students need a comfy spot to read during my center time and reading stamina time. This is serious learning time for these budding readers!
I want to create an inviting library, that for many of them, is their first!
A big part of my job is fueling a passion for reading, and I feel that comfortable seating and a rug will make the space complete! The two cushioned benches will provide seating for four to six students and ample storage for books! I am also requesting two floor chairs and cushions to add more spots for reading. The animal-themed pillows will provide "reading buddies" for the students to practice reading to. I will also organize the books by genre and theme to help my students learn library organization. The baskets will help achieve that. I love my new readers!
