This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
What do I love about my students? First and foremost, I love their individual personalities, passions, strengths, and challenges. I have the pleasure of working with many students on the Autism Spectrum. As many of you know, Autism looks very different on each individual. I truly enjoy getting to know each and every one of my students. One thing that all of my students have in common is their love for feeling accomplished. They work hard, and I am constantly reminding them of how far they've come.
My love for my students fuels my passion to be a dedicated educator and speech and language therapist who provides for my students to the best of my ability each and every day.
As the months of the school year go on, I am consistently amazed and filled with pride at all the progress they continue to make.
My Project
As a speech and language therapist within the school system a large part of my role has to do with building foundational language-related skills that "build the muscles" of a student's reading skills (as well as writing skills and general communication skills). As students progress and academics become more challenging, I have the pleasure of working with students who struggle to keep up with the demands of the classroom. We work together in a small group environment to build the skills needed to access the classroom curriculum.
This library will build a bridge between my speech room and students' classrooms, and it will help to motivate them to continue to work towards becoming stronger and more passionate readers and learners!
