My students need fake hammers and kick balls so they can prepare and practice steady beat. They need the hand puppet to experience high. The dry erase crayons will be used in melodic and rhythmic writing.
I teach music to kindergarten through 2nd grade in a Title 1 school. Many of my students have a disadvantaged history. Many students receive free or reduced lunch and some receive food to take home on the weekends. My campus also has a high special education population. For many of those students the music classroom is the only other class they visit during the school day.
For many students school is a safe place where they can learn and explore.
My Project
My students need fake hammers and kick balls so they can prepare and practice steady beat. They need the hand puppet to experience high. The dry erase crayons will be used in melodic and rhythmic writing. The students will experience high and low by singing along with the snail puppet and a puppet that is already in my classroom. My students will practice keeping a steady beat while singing Cobbler, Cobbler and "Mending" their shoes while hammering to the steady beat. They will will learn high, low, and steady beat when they are able to bounce the balls to Bounce High, Bounce Low.
Who doesn't love practicing their writing, especially when it's not with words?!
My students will use the crayons to practice writing rhythms and melodic patterns. And the crayons can't dry out the same way the markers would.
The students are going to have a high paced year of learning where they will be able to do many things in the 25 minutes I have them.
