This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you remember what it was like in your elementary music class? Chances are that experience involved the teacher playing the piano. Our students are not that lucky. Currently there is no piano in music class!
My students love music.
Above all they love making music and it is a bright spot in their day. Our area has been hit extremely hard by the recession. One hundred percent of the students receive free lunch. Our school works extremely hard to challenge our students academically and also to give them the self-confidence they need to face and rise above their circumstances. Our school believes that every child can succeed no matter what. My students love performing and having a piano for music class would mean the world to them!
My Project
I am requesting a piano to use in my classroom. I am requesting a portable keyboard, so we can take the keyboard to different places and use it in performances. For our performances we have been stuck using CDs and it would mean the world to my students to have a real piano to sing with. My students would be able to learn the songs much easier if I had a piano to use to teach them the notes.
Having a piano for music class is so fundamental to students learning music, yet because of our limited budget it is something the school has been unable to provide.
I will be able to use the keyboard with over 700 current students and for many years to come. Please help provide music for these deserving students.
