Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a kindergarten teacher in a Title I elementary school. My students are highly motivated and eager learners but have a limited foundation in reading. Many of them speak English as a second language and need many different hands-on opportunities to help them develop that foundation for beginning reading. I am asking for several manipulatives that will help my students build phonemic awareness, letter/sound recognition and vocabulary skills through exploration and discovery. My students learn best when I can give them learning opportunities through many different kinds of experiences. Being actively engaged helps to make learning concrete and attainable. I will use these items in small groups and center time activities where students can either work with a friend or by themselves. I am asking for alphabet sound tubs that contain miniature real objects and upper/lowercase letters, alphabet boxes for matching letter sounds and upper/lowercase letters, and magic boards with handwriting practice cards. Please help me to create a solid foundation in reading by funding this proposal. Thank you!!!
