This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are full of energy and eager to learn. Most of my students view the classroom as a home away from home. They share many experiences, emotions, and growth in this one room and for that I hope to make the classroom a place of calm and comfort.
Our learning is often collaborative and requires different spaces for small group work.
The variety of furniture will allow for students to move as they need. I am a 2nd grade teacher at a Title I school. Our school is located in a high poverty area with a majority of students receiving free breakfast and lunch.
My Project
My students are in need of flexible seating options within our classroom. This will allow for students to move and have different choices when it comes to completing work, especially in small groups.
These bean bag chairs, balance ball seats, and rug will help to build a relaxed feel for reading times throughout the day.
Students will have an opportunity to enjoy their desired space while they explore the many books of the classroom library. A few of the flexible seating options will also provide a resource for some of my fidgety friends. They allow for the much needed movement that many of my students seek.
