A Hidden World Brought to Life with A Microscope

My students need a powerful, computer ready microscope and lenses so they can observe microscopic specimens as a group during our hands on science lessons.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a culturally diverse group of 5th graders who love science. The only subject they yell, "Yay" for is science, especially hands-on activities.

During science, they are extremely curious, motivated, and have a hunger for activities that expand beyond the textbook, and our science time is their only exposure to interactive discovery.

Because hands-on learning opportunities are so valuable to the kids, I need to make sure I create lessons that transcend textbook lessons. Their love for science has me excited about creating interactive, discovery filled activities with more science tools.

My Project

My students study the body and its organs and cells. They currently have very old, low power microscopes to look at microscopic cell specimens. These provide a glimpse of what a microscope is able to do, but they are not much better than strong magnifying glasses.

This microscope that we are asking for is not only stronger, it connects to a laptop so that a group of kids can collaborate, view, and study cells together at same time.

Instead of seeing a slight magnification, they will be able to use the new microscope for a much closer view, and they can project and share the images with a small group of partners.
