Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work with immigrant students in the South Bronx. My students have worked to build successful futures by overcoming the economic, social, and personal challenges that caused them to fail in other schools.
Our school is a collaboration between the Department of Education and the City University of New York.
In four years, our students are expected to graduate with a Regents diploma granted by the Department of Education and an Associate Degree from Hostos Community College. Students take high school classes at our grades 6-12 middle/high school, and college classes at the college.
My Project
Many of my students tell me they do not like the lunch served in the school cafeteria; so they opt not to eat it. They are then hungry and constantly ask for snacks. One student habitually clutches his stomach, groaning that, "I haven't eaten all day." He then wants to fill up on potato chips and granola bars.
These Quick Cook Vegetable Medley, Quinoa and Brown Rice Blend Bowls, Indian Style Protein Bowls, and water will provide my student and his classmates with healthier lunch options.
They are ready to eat and require no preparation so they can have lunch and go to class.
