My Students

I work with special education, 504, ELL and low SES students who need specific interventions in reading. They have all faced challenges and adversity that make learning in the classroom a challenge. My passion is creating a loving, supportive environment where children feel safe to be vulnerable with me and boost their reading skills. Many of my students have never read a novel. My goal is to connect them to reading and show them that they are capable and smart!

My Project

Ishmael is one of the greatest books of all time! It teaches the concept of "taking" and "leaving" things in life. In a world divided, Ishmael poses questions to real life issues and has you walking away feeling more connected and compassionate to others life journeys. I will guide my students through this novel and touch on sociocultural literacy in hopes that students will feel more connected to there feelings and beliefs and gain a deeper perspective on connecting with each other. Having similar backgrounds to my kids, Ishmael was the first book I fell in love with and I know my students will walk away changed!
