Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students live in a low income/high poverty community. Despite this, they come to school ready to learn. As a former graduate of this wonderful, but small community I am trying to give back as much as I can. These kids deserve it.
They have a love of learning.
As their teacher, I am trying to help that "love" grow. I work hard to make sure my students want to come to class. I want them to feel safe and secure here at school, because in all honesty, this may be the only place they do.
My Project
I am asking for materials that will allow me to create a flexible seating / coding classroom. Students today are encouraged to take charge of their learning. As teachers, we are encouraged to allow our students to be active members of the classroom. The items I have requested will do just that. The wobble chairs and portable laptop stands will allow students to sit anywhere in the classroom and participate in the lessons.
With the items, I have requested my students will be given the choice to choose.
The Ozobots and Osmos are the first steps to coding. They allow students to fall in love with coding. I plan on incorporating the Ozobots in Math, ELA, Science, and Art. For example, we are working on multiplication and students can create mats with math facts and race the Ozobots to finish. The items I have requested for a flexible seating environment creates a choice for my student. They are in charge of their own learning and inquiry. The flexible seating equipment will be used on a daily basis.
