This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

About 6,000 years ago, chili peppers were first domesticated in South and Central America and added a bit of spice to our lives. Today, chili spice is an intrigued part of cuisine around the world. The different kinds of pepper seeds will allow students to test other variables as they grow the peppers in our large school garden. Students will get to see what chili varieties grow well in the conditions of southern California. Students will get the added benefit of being able to experience rare varieties of pepper (both sweet and spicy types) and taste the fruits of their labor.

Students need a variety of seed packets to explore the domestication of chili plants in our school garden.

They will learn responsibility by taking care of a garden and learning to take care of the plants at school daily. Students will plant their plots and watch the seeds grow into a plant. Students will be responsible for weeding and keeping the plants healthy, and learning about speciation. This project will help bring environmental awareness, teaching them the joy of growing!
