A Garden for All Seasons

My students need a mini greenhouse and row covers in order to extend our gardening project through the winter months.

My Students

My students are very diverse. Here at our high school, we have students from all over the district, not just selected zoned feeder schools. In keeping with the Texas Early College High School blueprint, many of my students are from populations that are historically underrepresented in college courses including first generation college goers, students of low socioeconomic status, African American, Hispanic, and at risk students.

Although they come from all over the district, from diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds, as part of a small school, my students are like a family.

Many of the students lack someone at home to guide their academic journeys, but are still motivated to be successful both in high school classes, and those classes that will earn them associate degrees before high school graduation!

My Project

We have an established school/community garden, but as of right now, garden production stops at winter break and does not resume until after spring break. The greenhouse and row covers will allow our garden service projects to extend through the winter months.

The greenhouse will allow students to raise plants from seeds during the winter months, moving up the timetable for harvesting spring vegetables.

The row covers will protect our raised beds from frost during the handful of days when temperatures drop below freezing allow the garden to flourish through the winter.

Protecting the plants will allow students to garden all year long.
