Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a special education teacher who works with fourth and fifth graders in El Paso, Texas. I have a small class of eight students at the moment with the chance to grow at any time. My students are excited about learning and love being involved in hands-on activities and real-world learning applications. They also love to use technology and work with their peers. We are looking for fun ways to apply life long skills in our daily school lessons that they will be able to take with them everywhere they go.
My students are big readers and knowledge seekers!
As a teacher, I love and appreciate this and want to offer ways for this exploration to occur in our classroom daily. My wish is for them to take risks, learn about cultures, and explore life. My students come from low-income areas of military, retired military, and families where access to different hands-on tools may be difficult.
My Project
Technology is very important in my classroom. It is a way for my struggling learners to practice and work on basic concepts. My students love to practice their new skills through computer games. We use Education Galaxy, Lexia, BrainPOP and so much more on a daily basis, that as a teacher I feel that it is important to expose my students to new content in multiple ways.
My students need to be able to practice and become familiar with the technology they will be expected to understand as they travel through school and when they go out and get jobs.
I feel that I am preparing them for life outside of school and expectations they will run into later. We will use this Chromebook for math science and reading practice. I will also allow them to use it to research the topic of interest and to find sites that are safe for them to look at.
