A Fun, Engaging Way to Help Children Learn Grammar Skills

My Project

I have a fun, active class this year. There is a wide variety of students, ranging from kindergarten level readers up through 5th grade level readers. However, this group missed all of their core 1st grade year due to Covid and there are major learning gaps.

In order to help fill these learning gaps, these Words are Categorial Grammar books will help students learn basic grammar skills in fun and engaging ways.

The books are fun to read and listen to in either whole or small group settings, get the kids reading, and are interactive, all while reinforcing the core grammar skill. I will use these as an initial read aloud to introduce the skill and give them practice with the skill, and then again in small groups with white boards in a more intimate setting to check for understanding. Ideally, students will use these books both independently as well as in pairs to take control of their own learning.
