Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As the new school year approaches, I am beginning to develop hybrid workspaces to promote students' blended learning. Blended learning fuses traditional in-class learning with independent virtual work. Given our exposure to virtual learning and students' acclimation to this style of learning during the pandemic, they can now benefit from both the virtual and traditional styles of learning throughout the summer school season. Student minds need to reacclimatize to in-class and hybrid environments and a dedicated workspace for tech-centered learning is important to this process. Making this transition as smooth and easy as possible for them will help their mental health and well-being throughout the year.
This Apple iMac will contribute to hybrid, blended learning by providing a hybrid learning workstation that is compatible with technologies necessary for fall academic success.
This initiative will support a new project-based learning program that I am developing that will allow students to apply their learned skills to real-world scenarios. In other words, students will be problem solving in both Chemistry and Environmental Science for sustainability issues around our school. These kinds of projects promote emotional investment in their work and allow students the opportunity to grow social skills through group efforts. This iMac will make these learning opportunities possible as I will be able to develop the technology and simulated portions of the program from scratch.
This blended learning initiative will eventually pair with Oculus Quest VR headsets, Apple iPads with Apple Pens and Apple TV, and Google Expedition products. Students will use these different learning tools through station-taught lessons where they rotate through each area of the classroom, both inside and outdoors. They will work in cohorts to complete blended learning lessons. Please support our technology needs, which are often the most overlooked yet highest needed items for urban, inner-city environments.
