Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are diverse kids from different countries in Latin America. Our school is located in a low-income area in Texas, and over 90% of the school's population is economically disadvantaged. My students are all bilingual students who are still recovering from the devastation that was caused earlier last year by Hurricane Harvey. Not many of them were directly affected by the hurricane, but a few students did experience flooding and were forced to move to a different apartment. Because of the trauma, they have experienced, I want to create an environment where they feel safe. I want them to look forward to coming to school and to feel completely engaged in all the learning activities.
Many of my students come to school hungry and tired on a daily basis.
This is in part due to the fact that most of these kids only get one meal per day. This meal is usually received at school. When they go back home, food is scarce. As a result, our students come to school almost daily with very low energy. Despite all of these challenges, I want to be able to provide something that will make their days much more bright.
My Project
I have been able to provide my students with many wonderful technology materials thanks to the generosity of the donors of this website. They can now code with wonder dash robot and osmo with the use of iPads that we received thanks to donations of many people from this site. Thanks to all of you, my students have shown a great amount of interest in learning.
I want to be able to continue to grow their interest with Tello drone.
With this product, my students will be able to learn how to code to control. They will have to create a command that will make the drone turn on, fly up, move forward, move backwards and move down. With the experience that they posses from osmo and dash, my students are now ready to try and create a more sophisticated code command.
