The kids have gotten to use the books during our small groups and I can really see a difference in their academics. \r\n \r\nAs I write this message there is one little guy that pops into my head. His name is C. He is a tiny third grader. When I first saw him, I thought he must be in the wrong grade! C came in with a big personality. He had wonderful conversation but once you placed a book in his hands, he shut down. I could see the immediate change in him. He was in third grade and struggled to read in Spanish and could not read in English. He needed to grow his English reading skills in a very little amount of time. \r\n\r\nWe began our journey with sight words. They were challenging for him, but he slowly learned them. We moved on to books. I did not have a books on his level that I could use with him so I decided to print some out for him. When I handed them to him, he did not like them. He would tell me that they were not real books. It took a while but eventually he did warm up to them. I would also encourage him to keep reading because eventually he would get to read real books. \r\n\r\nThat's when your generosity popped in. The first time I handed him a real book from the library you had shared with me, his eyes lit up and a big smile showed up on his face. He exclaimed \"I can read real books now!\" I smiled and said \"Yes you can!\"\r\nHe was quickly able to enjoy all of the books from the set and I am happy to say that his growth this year has been amazing! \r\n\r\nC is not the only one of my kiddos who have used the books. They have all had an opportunity to enjoy them during out sessions. They have all shown growth from reading the texts. \r\n\r\nAgain, Thank you soo much for joining us during our journey. Like my project described, my students are special ed. Due to their disabilities, they face large hurdles when it comes to learning. All of my kids want to learn, but they struggle to be as successful as their peers. Sometimes they come in very down and it is hard for them to stay motivated in order to be successful. \r\n\r\nWhen I received the packages I was with two little ones who I was worried about. As the year progressed, I could see them slowly begin to become discouraged in the classroom. They would come into our sessions upset, and at times, I would let them share their worries with me. They would share that they were not able to keep up with their peers and it was starting to bother them. As I spoke to them, they noticed the boxes and asked about them. I decided to share with them that they were gifts from strangers around the country who wanted to help them succeed. I handed each one a box and asked them to help me open them so that we could see what we had. \r\n\r\nThe opening of the boxes became a mini celebration. Their eyes grew wide when they saw all of the goodies inside. I shared that the presents were for all of my kids as long as they continued to show me reading growth. I could see them thinking about the comment, but as they continued to look through the boxes, they both promised that they would not become discouraged. I am happy to say that they have kept their promise. \r\n\r\nEven though the toys are small, my kids are always excited to end out session and get to dig around in my baggy to find something that they like. My favorite part is when they pick a toy for a sibling or even their parents. When it was Christmas, most of the kids picked toys to give to their families as presents. \r\n\r\nThe toys have been great motivators to keep them going in school. They all have different struggles. For some, reading comes easily while others struggle to get through a sentence. The only way for them to improve is for them to have reading materials available so that they can practice. \r\n\r\nAs a teacher, I've made it my mission to share with my kids the importance of reading. As I get to know my kids, one of the questions I always ask is \"Do you have books at home?\" Most of the time, the answer is \"No\". It is always a struggle for me to encourage them to love reading when they don't have access to books at home. \r\n\r\nWhen I created the project, my idea was to have the kids use it as a take home library. They would get to borrow books from me and exchange them after they read them. \r\n\r\nOn a quiet Monday I arrived to see my first kiddo. I showed her the books, she smiled and quickly picked two and asked \"Can I keep them?\" When I told her no, I saw her smile fade and she set the books down. I realized I had made a mistake. So right then and there, I changed my plan and told her \"Yes, the books are for you to take.\" Her smiled returned and she quickly grabbed her pencil and wrote her name on the covers. As she walked out of our class, she hugged her pair of books and headed back to class. \r\n\r\nI realized that by giving the kids the books to keep, they would have more of an impact than had I kept them with me. All of my kids are now proud owners of books. Whenever I see them, I always ask about the books and they share the progress they have made with them at home. \r\n\r\nThank you for becoming an important part of my classroom. \r\nYour generosity allowed me to share the books with the students and keep some to do my portable library with them. \r\n\r\nI truly appreciate your kindness and support for the education.","fullyFundedDate":1766457628883,"projectUrl":"project/books-for-readers/9698140/","projectTitle":"Books for Readers!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. N. It has given them a sense of ownership and pride in their work, and they eagerly line up to see their hard work come to life on paper.\r\n\r\nThanks to your kindness, we've been able to streamline assignments, support creative expression, and enhance classroom presentations in ways that were not possible before. Before this project, my classroom was filled with extension cords and chargers spread out across the floor. It wasn't safe, and honestly, it was stressful. When the fire marshal came for inspection and my room was chosen at random, I was told I could no longer have multiple extension cords. That meant my students had to take turns charging their laptops, and sometimes, they weren't able to use them when they needed them most.\r\n\r\nWhen the charging station arrived, the excitement was real. My students gathered around it like it was brand new technology itself. One of them said, \"Now we don't have to fight for a plug!\" and another said, \"This feels like a real computer lab!\" Their reactions reminded me that something as simple as having enough outlets can make a huge difference in how they learn and feel about their classroom.\r\n\r\nNow, every laptop can be charged at the same time, and no instructional time is lost waiting for devices to power up. This has already impacted our learning, whether it's completing small projects, practicing reading skills online, or working on their typing skills, my students are able to jump right into the lesson without worrying about dead batteries. For example, during our recent reading assignment, every group had their laptops ready and working, which allowed us to complete activities in one day that used to take two.\r\n\r\nBecause of this project, I am able to focus more on teaching and less on managing cords and outlets. It may seem small, but it has completely changed the flow of our classroom.\r\n\r\nFrom the bottom of my heart, thank you for believing in my students and giving them what they truly needed.","fullyFundedDate":1753127189354,"projectUrl":"project/charge-squad/9397749/","projectTitle":"Charge Squad!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Robinson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9896445_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1737066620529","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-trobinson"},{"teacherId":8838929,"projectId":9051422,"letterContent":"Thank you so very much for your donations.
