Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Two years, because of construction at our school, library books were boxed up and shelves were moved out. When we returned last fall, instead of putting the library back together as it was, we reimagined what it could be. When shelves returned to the library, the new layout allowed for an improved makerspace, a picture book nook, and a research/small group area in the nonfiction section of the library.

This year, as an extension of their reading workshop, fourth graders were given the task of surveying art in the library, analyzing its purpose, and creating a plan to add missing elements.

One group noted that there was no area for cozy reading. They created artwork that promotes reading and identified the best location. The requested materials will be used as ottomans, side tables, and cushions.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
