A Cozy Colorful Rug for Preschoolers

Help me give my students a large colorful rug that will give every student in my Pre-K classroom their very own space.

My Project

My preschoolers use the rug for many activities. They sit on the rug for instruction time and to listen to stories. We gather on it to act out nursery rhymes and social emotional scenarios to help learn about emotions. We also use it when we are singing and dancing to music, building with blocks and having fun playing games.

This particular rug is wonderful because it has multicolored squares which will automatically help my little ones define boundaries and give them their very own space.

Less time will be spent on my part asking students to give their friend some room or to 'scooch' over just a bit so they are not touching someone else. Understanding personal space is a skill that can be difficult for 4 year olds. Due to the design of the rug, little ones will easily be able to find their own spot allowing us to dive into a fun filled day.

A bonus is that this rug has an alphabet border which can serve a couple of purposes. It will give my class another place to sit when I ask them to move to the edge of the rug to form a big square. Sometimes we sit in this position when doing an activity such as cooking, using math manipulatives or playing a game. The rug also has a literacy component. The alphabet is printed with both capital and lowercase letters and a picture to match its sound. This is highly beneficial for vocabulary development for my EL students and it's a great visual to introduce beginning sounds for all of my students. Not only will this rug help with classroom management and educational purposes, it will provide a safe and happy place for all of my students.
