Ms. Bias from East Haven CT is requesting flexible seating through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.

A Comfy Spot to Read A Lot

My students need a comfortable place to read in our classroom. The students are frequently given the opportunity to take their book box (books they have collected throughout the year) and find a place to read.

My Students

Our school population resides in a high poverty area with a free and reduced participation rate of around 65%. My students are a diverse group of young learners. They come from a wide range of cultures/backgrounds, and each one is excited to learn in their very own way.

My students' ability levels vary, and require differentiated instruction to best meet their individual needs.

I look for a variety of resources to target not only their academic needs, but also their curiosity and love of exploration. Their likes and interests are very important to me and I strive to incorporate as many as I can throughout our school year together.

My Project

Many of my students have a limited supply, if any, books at home. Being read to and being able to look at books is a brand new experience and they LOVE IT! A whole new world has opened up for them this year because reading takes them on a wealth of adventures. This cozy reading area will allow them a comfortable and safe place to enjoy the wonder of books. Many of my students come to school with what seems like the weight of the world on their shoulders and learning is the least of their concerns. This comfy area with the new chairs and a sofa will help to spark the love of books in hopes of instilling in them a love of learning and help to foster academic success!
