Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 7-8 year old primary Spanish speaking children. These students are mostly first generation American born. These students are eager to learn and wanting to please their teachers. I have a range of very sweet and soft spoken children to very outspoken, energetic children. My students live in poverty areas in the inner city and despite their financial hardships our bilingual students have some of the best attendance rates in the city. The children and their families believe that coming to school everyday will improve their children's lives through learning and positive socialization. These students feel our school is a safe zone and are eager to return every day.

My Project

My classroom has been in need of a new carpet to read and play. We have also received lovely leveled books for our classroom and need plastic bins for storage. These materials would give my students a warm and comfortable place to read and learn.

A welcoming environment will keep the students motivated during reading time as well as provide them a place to get creative during math centers.

The carpeted area will allow us to stay organized and prepared for read aloud's and shared writing. All of my students feel our classroom is their home away from home. We would greatly appreciate a comfy place to learn.
