Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are smart, creative, and loving individuals. They enter my classroom each day with a hug and smile from me to start our day. I have a very diverse group of learners who come from many different backgrounds and living environments. Many of my students struggle with reading. I read to them each day to encourage a love of reading. I try to show how reading can be fun and entertaining. I have my students sit on the floor in our class library each day and read to them. Sometimes I read 3rd grade chapter books, this way they can read another book from the series if they liked the one I read. Other times I read books connected to our learning or books to match the holidays.
They are a very active group that enjoy hands-on activities and moving around our classroom while completing their assignments.
We just finished a government unit about people's rights. They made posters about fighting for rights and we walked around our school in a peaceful march. They enjoy reading, working, and making projects like our rights posters in our classroom library especially reading to our reading buddies.
My Project
My students sit on the floor in our classroom library every day. The carpet in my classroom is very uncomfortable and rough to sit on. I read to my students and teach lessons while my students sit on the carpet to bring us together and make our learning more interactive instead of having them sit in their chairs at their desks. My students also work on the carpet during center times like buddy reading and playing math games.
A soft, comfy carpet will make sitting in our classroom library more comfortable and enjoying.
It will also enhance my students enjoyment of our lessons and their center time working with others. It will also give our classroom more of a homey and comfortable feeling. Since my students spend a lot of their time in our classroom I try to make it a safe and comfortable place for them to learn in.
