Every child is gifted, they just unwrap their packages at different times. “If you've met one person with autism, you’ve met one person with autism,” Dr. Stephen Shore.
This is true of my students.
My six students are all on the autism spectrum and have many different needs concerning communication, behavior, and sensory. My goal is to teach my students how to communicate to the best of their ability and to socialize with their peers while focusing on academics and daily living skills. I push them to be as independent as they can be in all aspects of their lives.
My Project
My students love to read the books in our leveled library, which they received from an earlier project, "Help Us Create A Leveled Library In Our Classroom". This rug would create a cozy spot in which my students could read books on their independent reading level. This rug would also be our read aloud rug, in which we would meet as a class and listen to a book and discuss reading strategies.
By donating to this project to bring a reading rug into my classroom you will helping to create a warm and cozy spot for my students to read.
With this reading area, I am hoping to encourage a life long love of reading.
