My students need materials to make reading comfortable fun and motivating. they also need individual center materials and a classroom library. These leveled readers will help us have quicker access to books.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students enter the classroom because they are in crisis in their school environment. They all have social/emotional and behavioral needs, while some may have even more accompanying disabilities that impact their learning. These students require substantial support from staff as well as many sensory materials, technology, etc. that are not provided in a typical classroom. The majority of my students are also from low-income households. These students are not able to access the academic curriculum to the best of their ability due to their social/emotional and behavioral needs.
My goal is to create a welcoming environment with access to materials that will engage students, build coping strategies and allow them the chance to increase their social/emotional skills as well as increase their academic performance.
My classroom is a transitioning period where students are taught coping skills and different behavioral strategies are put into place to then transition to the student to the least restrictive environment where they will then be successful.
My Project
My students are in need of their own library and individual center materials to continue to learn and engage even when they are not participating in guided reading with a teacher. Currently, we share a black and white photocopied library with all other primary classrooms. This is difficult because many books we need are not always immediately available which delays the progress of the students.
Additionally, our classroom is in need of comfy cozy spaces to read.
We have extremely old furniture in an extremely old building which does not allow for flexible seating and comfort. Students are crammed and reading on tile floors and in the hallway. I would love to be able to rearrange and organize t promote a calm and comfortable environment to help engage my students.
