A Comfortable Space to Learn

My students need a comfortable space to sit during whole group lessons and activities.

My Students

My school is comprised of 90% of students receiving free and reduced lunch and 32% English Language Learners. It is located in a small urban town. So many of my students love coming to school because it is a clean and safe place. Some of them come from such chaotic home environments that they struggle each day with the ability to focus and succeed academically. My goal is to provide them with a loving, organized, and structured environment that will help them be successful.

My Project

My classroom has flexible seating, so my students can choose to sit or stand where they learn best. However, it makes it difficult to come together for whole group instruction on the cold, hard tile floor. This donation of a comfortable classroom rug will provide my students with a cozy spot to sit during whole group instruction and activities. The rug will help us come together as a group for collaboration and learning several times throughout the day. Students will be able to see the books I am reading. Currently I have to walk around the room for students to see the pictures in a book. Having a comfortable spot to sit on in front of myself and the board will help my students stay focused in our flexible seating classroom.
