My Project

My second-grade students have incredible imaginations and love sharing their ideas through stories, journals, and classroom discussions. Every day, they are learning that writing is more than putting words on paper—it is a way to express themselves, build confidence, and communicate with the world around them. I want to create a classroom where writing is exciting, accessible, and something every child looks forward to each day.

This project will help transform our classroom into a writing-friendly environment filled with the tools students need to succeed.

Flexible seating clipboards and lap desks will allow students to write comfortably throughout the room. Writing journals and composition notebooks will give every student a special place to record their thoughts, stories, and reflections. Dry-erase boards and markers will provide opportunities for students to practice spelling, sentence structure, and brainstorming before putting their ideas on paper.

Writing center organizers, caddies, and supply bins will keep materials easily accessible so students can work independently and stay organized. Pocket charts and sentence strips will support mini-lessons on grammar, vocabulary, and sentence building. Alphabet lines, editing checklists, and writing reference charts will provide visual reminders that encourage students to become more confident, independent writers.

Colorful pens, highlighters, sticky notes, and revision tools will help students learn the writing process by editing and improving their work. Book bins and mentor texts will inspire creativity by exposing students to excellent examples of narrative, informational, and opinion writing.
