My Students

The school I teach in is a spectacular school. It is located in a great neighborhood and we also pull a large amount of our students from other neighborhoods and districts. The reason for this is we have an awesome team of teachers, administrators, and support staff. Some of the teachers working with these kids have been at the school for decades. Because we have such a wonderful and happy staff, the students have a great time learning. When kids enjoy learning, they do it very well! As a result, our test scores are some of the highest in the district!

This year, we are really focusing on skills that will take our students to the next level.

Instead of just teaching to test, we are challenging our students to be creative, cooperative, and to think big picture. We are encouraging projects that span many different skills; to push our students to be critical thinkers. We don't just want our students to excel in reading and math, but also music and the arts. We want them to become the well rounded individuals we need in our ever increasingly global society.

My Project

Operating with a minimum budget can make it difficult to get class sets for some of the instruments, especially drums. These specific drums are awesome because they come in multiple colors and shapes.

When these drums are used with the younger students, a teacher can instruct only certain colors or shapes to play, helping the students practice those concepts.

When used with older students, it challenges them to be actively engaged and listening to make sure they are playing when they are supposed to. For both groups, it helps student learn the important of watching and paying attention when making music.

Having a class set would also allow every student to participate in ALL the activities, instead of having to take time consuming small group turns. This promotes engagement and also allows students to practice those skills more frequently.

And one of the most important things is that they are having a great time while learning!
