Help me give my students the opportunity to have a classroom that accommodates their multiple sensory needs where they can learn and be successful. This includes desks, ball chairs, and other items.

My Students

I currently work with students in grades 9 through 12 who received special education services due to learning disabilities, behavioral difficulties as well as a variety of mental health needs. These students require intensive counseling services as well as many other additional supports throughout their entire school day in order to be successful.

The goal is to create a classroom where these students can grow as learners and individuals so they can be successful in everyday life and after graduation.

My Project

The goal is to create a classroom for students grade 9th - 12th that incorporates their learning style, sensory needs, social/emotional well being and post-secondary goals. Having flexible seats and tables will allow students to move within the classroom, take breaks, and learn through social/emotional play/interactions in order to increase their success in the outside world.

In addition, some of the items will be utilized to create an appropriate safe space for them to take a break and utilize the coping strategies they have learned when need without being exposed to other students in the large classroom or school setting.
