My students need wireless microphones and some XLR cords to use with the microphones for an upcoming play so that our audience can hear each and every student clearly.
This is a classroom that attempts to bring something new and exciting to the students as often as possible. This is always a challenge, but it is a good one that keeps the teacher on his toes too.
This classroom is filled with students that are gifted and talented.
Gifted students think differently, they need to experience higher levels of learning on a daily basis, they want each thing that they learn to be applicable. They love to be challenged daily!
Our school prides itself in having a "Community of Learners". Many things that we do are completed by having student led discussions, debates, and simply helping each other. This class wonderfully excels at creating an atmosphere for each other to gain more knowledge and apply it.
This class is filled with talent, and according to some parents has not yet be tapped into. It is filled with actors, mathematicians, scientists, doctors, teachers, engineers, comedians, writers and many more scholarly traits. We can only assume that each student is seeking to identify their place in the world- this is a very common trait among a gifted child- the desire to define "who they are".
My Project
We are currently reading A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. The class is loving the book and have decided to turn the words of the book into a play.
The microphone equipment will be used, with current school equipment, to enhance our students experience by allowing them to stop worrying about speaking loudly. For some strange reason, some students experience fear when asked to "speak up", and having a wireless system will help these students have a wonderful experience.
It is my desire that the students learn how to work together, and work out differences as they write a play. I hope that they will strive to enhance their own communication with each other as problems arise with the process of performing a play. Many of these students are already "natural leaders", and having this experience will help them value other opinions and develop a deep respect for each other.
I also hope that these students will create a memory that lasts forever.
When you have a new technology in the classroom the ability to use it over and over increases the amount of opportunity for the children.
More importantly with this project- we can put on a performance that will increase the self-esteem of each individual involved. Personal experience has taught me that performing in a play can increase self-esteem in unexplained ways. I want them to have a fantastic experience that gives them the desire to push through hard things and not give up.
