This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Hello! I am a beginning kindergarten teacher at a newly opened public charter school in RI. My 19 diverse scholars are eager and excited to learn about science, especially as we dig into our unit on worms!

Since I am a new teacher working at a new school, the resources to supply certain necessary materials are just not there! The students are thrilled each opportunity they get to interact up close and personal with the animals in our unit. Currently we are digging into our investigation of worms- redworms and night crawlers! What better way to observe the parts of a worm than through the lens of a magnifying glass. As each scholar draws, labels, and writes about their observation, they are missing out on that critical up-close experience. Please help!

By supplying our classroom with a full class set of magnifying glasses, students will act as true scientists and learn first-hand the details of animals like worms! Additionally, pockets charts will help easily post the science vocabulary (segments, anterior, posterior) for students to utilize as they discuss and write about their observations.

You have the power to give my kindergartners the tools necessary to be scientists! In return, as our motto states, we will "work hard" so we can "go to college" and "change the world." Thank you! :)
