A bright, brilliant carpet for their pockets. I teach second grade in a high-need community where most of my students come from single parent homes or the live with relatives. A carpet would not fit into the school or my personal budget.
I try to provide a safe, bright and welcoming environment for my students. One in which they are excited to come to everyday and learn. My classroom is their home five days a week, six hours a day. That is a total of 30 hours a week!
A gathering place is one of the key elements in my classroom. I use it for story time, math conference and fantastic number corner. My students often lay on our twenty dollar carpet that is decaying. I would like to brighten our gathering place with a colorful, long lasting carpet of the United States that could provide opportunity to teach second graders facts about the states.
You can make the difference in our classroom by donating funds for a carpet where students would be excited to come to the gathering place to share their thoughts and learning throughout the day. It would provide a place to lay and read their favorite book. A carpet for the gathering place is an essential part of any classroom environment!
