My students need Fluorescent Light Filters to create a calm and soothing classroom environment by decreasing glare and flickering from overhead fluorescent lights which can cause eyestrain, headaches, even anxiety.
My students are from Elkhart, Indiana. Our building is part of Tools of the Mind that helps young children to develop the cognitive, social-emotional, self-regulatory, and foundational academic skills they need to succeed in school and beyond. This program gives children from all cultures, areas, and various incomes an opportunity to learn and thrive within the district. My energetic Kindergarten students enter the classroom ready to learn, discover, and explore.
Each child in my classroom absolutely loves learning, although the method and environment in which they learn best vary greatly.
We incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are! They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a new group of learners that are excited and ready to learn each year!
My Project
Fluorescent Light Filters will be wonderful for reducing the awful flickering and will have a calming effect on the students. The filters will help reduce eye strain from the fluorescent lights. Several of my students and I suffer from headaches and migraines. This coming fall, I will have a special needs student that will need a calm environment and the filters will be a huge asset to the classroom.
Flexible-seating is used in the classroom, however, a larger variety will allow students to choose their comfort level.
Although Flexible-seating is already in place, additional seating is needed to create the environment needed for all children. Soft-Seats and Flex Space Seats would be a wonderful addition to current flexible seating. Students love it, and that's exactly what flexible-seating is about. Happier kids > healthier kids > better engagement > better results. Flexible-seating has been proven to improve academic performance. Children cannot sit still for eight hours! These additions will be a wonderful improvement for my students in the classroom.
