This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work in an underprivileged neighborhood where so many of our students live in foster homes, shelters and often times relocate far too often due to unforeseen circumstances. These children have difficult uprisings, many hardships, and challenges.
As a speech teacher, I work with students who have various disabilities, such as Autism Spectrum Disorders, Intellectual Disorders, Speech and Language Impairments, Dyslexia, Emotional Disturbances, and others.
Despite these challenges, our students work very hard to achieve their goals and overall academic success. I also help students become better communicators so that they are able to form relationships with peers and become community helpers/leaders.
I strive to make each and every student of mine feel encouraged, safe, and enthusiastic when they come to my therapy room. Once I have their trust, academic and social success will follow.
My Project
School is a second home for teachers and students. When home life can sometimes be unstable, I want my students to know that their school and teachers are always here for them, to provide them with emotional support and academic assistance.
I am requesting a horseshoe shaped table and chairs to encourage group work, socialization, and conversations in my speech therapy room.
I want to make my classroom more inviting, so that my students enjoy coming to speech therapy, and truly feel like it is a safe space. A horseshoe shaped table and sturdy chairs are essentials that every teacher and therapist should have.
DonorsChoose is the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
As a teacher-founded nonprofit, we're trusted by thousands of teachers and supporters across the country. This classroom request for funding was created by Mrs. Pogrebetskiy and reviewed by the DonorsChoose team.
